PCF'S CAREER EXPLORATION FAIR

Saturday, September 9th from 10:30am - 12:30pm

Our 6th annual career exploration fair is a VIRTUAL experience that connects professionals with first-generation scholars from historically underrepresented communities in the Bay Area. We are focused on career exploration rather than job placement and aim to bridge the knowledge gap by introducing scholars to the vast number of career positions in a variety of industry sectors.
We invite you to join over 100 business professionals each year in making an impact in our community!

Our Why | Learning Objectives for our Scholars

Professional Skills

    • To humanize "business professionals" so that scholars feel that they are approachable and accessible in the future
    • To strengthen their networking skills and learn how to confidently lead a conversation with a business professional

Workforce Readiness Skills

      • To expand scholars' knowledge of the types of professionals that are available to them in the workforce
      • To provide scholars with the opportunity to talk with professionals who are outside of their networks
      • To expose scholars to career or industry insights that are unattainable at the university level and/or through online resources
      • To highlight companies in their local communities
      • To gain resources that will help to prepare scholars for their next steps in their desired career path during their undergraduate and postgraduate years

Volunteering Details

      • Volunteers must commit to two-hours for their participation in the Career Exploration Fair where they will have the opportunity to meet with 3-5 scholars answering their questions. Questions will focus on learnings around your current position or past positions, and career journey
      • Sessions are held virtually via our online event platform so volunteers can enjoy participating from the comfort of their home environment. Scholars will book sessions directly with volunteers via our online booking platform.
      • 1:1 meeting will include Freshman through Senior Level College Students. Each session is 20 minutes in length and can occur any time between the 2 hour period (10:30am-12:30pm)
      • No preparation is needed by volunteers as discussions will be led by our scholars. Questions may be around career journey, company culture, job work: the challenges and rewards, why you chose your career path, how to prepare, etc. We encourage you to be yourself! Reflect on your own journey and ask: What do you wish you knew when you were a young professional?

Spread the Word

It is always more fun to volunteer when you are alongside other people you know and communities you are part of! We invite you to share this opportunity with other professionals in your network. All identities and career paths are welcome. You also do not have to be first-generation to participate. We require 3+ years of full-time work experience after completing a career-related training or educational program. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration!
